Inspired by feedback from my team member

“It would mean a lot to the team if you could be more present during our weekly group meetings.

In a recent 1-on-1 this week, a team member gently said something that stuck with me: "It would mean a lot if you could be more present during our weekly group meetings."

At first, I nodded and took it in, thinking, Of course, I’m there every week and lead the meeting! But later that day, the feedback echoed in my mind. I realized I was thinking of attendance; they were talking about presence.

As leaders, it's easy to get pulled in multiple directions, juggling tasks, answering messages, and planning activities. I didn’t intend to be distant. But intention doesn't always translate into impact.

This feedback reminded me that as leaders, our presence matters. Not just to give direction, but to show care. Listening with both ears, making eye contact, asking real questions, and staying curious about the answers. When we're truly present, it tells our team, “You matter. This moment matters.”

Being fully present might be one of the most powerful ways to lead. What do you think?

Thanks for sharing! Attdence is not equal to presence. Showing up with full attention also shows respect to others.
