When diving into a new subject or gaining insights from books, what’s your approach to truly understanding and retaining what you learn? One of the most effective strategies for me is taking notes and rephrasing them in my own words. This simple step transforms passive reading into active engagement.
But I don’t stop there. I ask myself, 'How can I explain and share this with someone else? ' This question changes everything. It encourages me to absorb the knowledge more deeply while reading and then articulate the message through writing, developing a presentation, or delivering a speech, a skill I continually refine as a Toastmasters member.
This process is more than just an exercise; it’s a journey of identifying and filling gaps in my understanding. By writing, sharing, or teaching, I don’t just pass on knowledge, I turn it into something I truly own and can apply.
For me, sharing what I learn isn’t just about helping others grow but also solidifying my understanding. That’s why I’m excited to start posting my reading notes regularly. From leadership principles to scientific breakthroughs, I’ll break down insights in ways that are accessible, actionable, and thought-provoking.
I’d love to hear from you: What book inspired you so much that you couldn’t wait to share it with someone else? Let’s encourage each other to move beyond reading to sharing, teaching, and genuinely grasping the ideas that drive us forward.
